Centre for Development Studies (CDS)

ESTABLISHMENT

CDS-TGIRD was created within Telangana Institute of Rural Development (TGIRD) through G.O. Ms. No. 397, PR & RD (RD-I) Dept., dated 27.12.2000 and was registered as a society under A.P. (Telangana Area) Public Society Act 1350F (Regn.No.2/2001, Dated 18.01.2001). Byelaws were amended partially in 13th Board meeting held on 29-06-2018 and registered by the Registrar of Societies, Hyderabad on 6-4-2013

It is a non-profit organization aimed at Human Resource Development and Development Studies.

Major Objective

  • Conducting Research Activities.
  • Conducting Action Research and Evaluation studies of implementation of various programmes and schemes especially in other states of the country.
  • Consultancy.
  • Conducting Studies to improve training curriculum of TGIRD.
  • Human Resource Management including recruitment.
  • Conducting specialized trainings in subjects such as RTI.
  • • Promote abilities of BNVs so as to help them to settle down in life and Spending 25% of surplus income of CDS-TGIRD every year for the development of BNVs.

Projects Handled:

CDS-TGIRD handled many International and National Projects for the following external agencies:

  • ‘Water and Sanitation’ Project sponsored by UNICEF in 2003.
  • ‘Water Conservation Mission (WCM)’ project sponsored by Royal Netherlands Embassy in 2004.
  • ‘Micro-Capital’ grant towards preparing 4 modules and 3 films on NREGS sponsored by UNDP in 2008.
  • ‘Andhra Pradesh Rural Livelihoods Project (APRLP)’ in 2007 and ‘Giripragathi’ Programme of SERP in 2008. These two projects were sponsored by DFID.

Recruitment conducted for various contract positions:

CDS-TGIRD has conducted the following recruitments for other Government Departments/Organizations/Institutions for various contract positions.

  • Engineering Consultants and APOs (Nos.1245) under MGNREGS in Rural Development Department, Telangana.
  • Assistant Project Directors (Nos.74) in A.P. Community based Tank Management Programme (I&CAD department).
  • 67 functionaries in Employment Generation & Marketing Mission (EGMM).
  • Asst.Managers (Nos.77) in Stree Nidhi Credit Cooperative Federation Ltd., Telangana state.
  • Asst.Managers (Nos.343), State Mission Manager, Asst. Placement and Social Mobilizers etc., for Tribal Welfare Department, Telangana state.

Major Achievements on Training Programmes:

  • Entered MoU with TSACS and SAATHII for establishment of “Kshamta Kendra Project” at CDS-TGIRD to carry out the Capacity Building activities for the Targeted Intervention Project as per the approval given under Annual Action Plan (AAP) for the Financial Year 2023-2024 by National AIDS Control Organization (NACO). “Kshamta Kendra” has conducted trainings to 1387 participants from various NGOs on the prevention of HIV/AIDS.
  • Entered MoU with PCRA and conducted sessions on Energy Conservation for the participants of TSIRD.
  • Trainings were conducted on People’s participation in Development programmes, Rural Development Research, Millennium Development Goals, RTI and Empowerment of Citizens for various functionaries of NGOs, Civil Society Organizations and Universities.
  • National AIDS Control Organization, New Delhi sanctioned State Training and Resource Centre (STRC) to CDS-TSIRD in 2010. STRC conducted trainings to 9780 functionaries of NGOs in the prevention of HIV/AIDS.

  • TSACS & SAATHII - Kshamtha Kendra Training Programmes for 1387 participants (39 batches) from January 2024 to March 2024.
  • Stree Nidhi - One day strategy meeting to Stree Nidhi field staff
  • Stree Nidhi - Two day Orientation/Training programme to ZS/MS staff
  • TSACS - Five (5) day training programme NACP counselors training the project directors of TSACS

The following films were produced and telecasted through Mana T.V. programme for the awareness of elected representatives of PRIs.

Research Studies Conducted:

CDS-TGIRD conducted the following research studies.

  • • Nutritional and Health Status of Adolescent Girls in Rural Areas.
  • • An Evaluation study on Government Urdu Medium schools in Hyderabad and Rangareddy districts with reference to Enrollment, Retention and Achievement of the Minority children.
  • • Major Livelihood Sources among Chechus (PTG) – A Case Study in Mahaboobnagar Distrct, Telangana.
  • • Impact Assessment of MGNREGS on Livelihoods in Mahabubnagar district, Telangana.
  • • Factors Influencing the Enrollment and the Retention of Students at Primary Education in Telangana State (With Reference to the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes).
  • • Green revolution vs Crop holiday.
  • • Harassment against women at work place.
  • • Comparative study of a village now and a decade ago.
  • • Gender and MGNREGS.
  • • Assessment of nutritional status of PLHIV on ART.
  • • Socio-economic status of the families of the victims of the extremist violence and extremists surrendered to the Government.
  • • Community participation in conservation of Biodiversity of various ecosystems in Andhra Pradesh.
  • • Socio-economic conditions and cultural practices of Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups in Andhra Pradesh
  • • Socio-economic Relations in the Era of Liberalization in the rural areas.

Evaluation Studies Conducted:

  • Programme Evaluation Organization of Planning Commission empanelled CDS for conducting evaluation studies.
  • CDS-TSIPARD conducted an evaluation study of implementation of flagship programmes in Bakaram village of Moinabad mandal of Ranga Reddy district and submitted report to the Planning Department, Government of Andhra Pradesh.

Internship of the students:

Some of the students of Rural Management from Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar and 20 MSW students of Telangana University have done their internship in CDS.

Trainings Conducted:

  • Training programme for Capacity Building of Bharat Nirman Volunteers (SC & ST) to achieve suitable career was conducted for 254 participants in 8 batches at Extension Training Centers.
  • CDS-TGIRD in collaboration with United Forum for RTI Campaign has been conducting training Programmes on RTI for representatives of civil society organizations for 2 days at District level. 117 participants have been trained so far.

Human Resource Management of Contract positions of TGIRD:

CDS has performs on Human Resource Management of contract positions in TGIRD including Recruitment, Renewal of contract appointments, Sanction of remuneration & allowances, Collection of performance appraisal reports and issuing orders relieving the contract employees for time to time. There are 9 DTMs, 3 TGIRD Trainers, 17 supporting and 12 subordinate staff working on contract basis in TGIRD.
